About Victory Bay

Victory Bay’s incredible story starts in South Jersey and South Philadelphia, stretches westward to Arizona, and returns home to the Garden State.

AJ Solomon grew up as part of a prominent family in Haddonfield, N.J., and Chris McGoldrick was born and raised just 20 minutes away – but a world apart – in South Philly. They had never met before, but their paths crossed in Prescott, Arizona, where they met at a treatment facility seeking recovery from addiction. It was there that Brent Reese became a big factor in their lives.

“The night I met A.J., we were at a 12-step meeting,” says Reese, a co-founder of Victory Bay along with Solomon. “At the meeting, A.J. shared some personal pain at the group level. Afterward, as he was leaving, I tapped him on the shoulder, shook his hand and asked if we could chat for a few minutes, which we did. The next week he asked me to be his sponsor. I said it would be an honor and a privilege and our journey began then.”

When Solomon first met McGoldrick, now the Senior Vice President at Victory Bay, they were not exactly two fish from the same pond. At least they did not seem to be at first glance.

“AJ went to college and graduated. He came from a well-known New Jersey family. But I came from a different world,” recalls McGoldrick. “It seemed from the outside that we were very, very different. But as it turns out, we connected on many levels: both from Jersey, recovery, sports, the Eagles, and lots of similarities and connections. As I got sober and implemented the 12 steps of recovery in my life, and by working in this field for a while, I’ve come to understand that the person you think you’re most different from is usually the person you’re most like.”

Solomon helps connect the dots of the story of two 20-something men, “I got sober with the help of two guys in Arizona that I did not know before; that being Chris and Brent, who are both sober longer than me,” he explains. “Chris became my friend, my sober brother, and Brent became my sponsor. They’re two of my closest relationships.”

Sparked by his sobriety and the strength of these personal connections, Solomon decided to approach Reese about opening a substance use treatment center.

“I pitched the idea to Brent, we discussed it for a short period of time and decided what the heck, let’s do it. And that’s how we started on our journey. It was a pretty simple decision,” said Solomon.

Reese had the experience that helped make Victory Bay become a reality. “As AJ and I planned and discussed the launch of the center, I knew he was so personable and excelled at building relationships, more of a business development mentality. But we needed an operations guy and I thought Chris would excel in this area,” says Reese. Reese’s background includes launching successful start-ups and organizational turnarounds.

“So, I suggested to AJ that we hire Chris and move him back to New Jersey to help launch and run the business. The rest is history.” Reese notes, “I would stay in Prescott, Ariz., and they would be on the ground in New Jersey. They’ve both succeeded beyond my expectations.”

Another part of the story is Reese’s ability to recognize talent in others and wanting to help them get started in the business world. Both Solomon and McGoldrick have talent. “Besides having talent, willingness, and discipline, they’re both serious about their recovery; I would not have gone into business with them if they weren’t,” says Reese.

“At the end of the day, it’s ‘community and accountability that ensures long-term recovery.”

The dedicated staff of professionals at Victory Bay all believes it’s never too late to begin treatment – and never too soon to start.

What Our Patients Say About Us

I would not be the man I am today

I would not be the man I am today and be in the position to help others myself if it wasn’t for the support and love I received from Victory Bay. The connections and friendships I made from being in this program are among the best I have ever experienced. The staff, the facilitators, and the therapists were all there to push me in the right direction and allow me to dig deep within myself to understand the core issues of my addiction. I will always cherish the time I was able to spend at such a great facility with people that actually care about your well being and decisions moving forward.

I found Victory Bay when I was at my lowest point. Their support staff, therapists and ancillary providers all rallied around me. I was supported, encouraged and never felt forced. My time here unfolded organically. What to expect- you can expect a large time commitment when you first come for treatment. Multiple group therapy sessions, individual therapy sessions and also the possibility of working with wellness coaches and nutrition support. Recovery will feel like your second job. But these groups will start to feel like your second home. You'll grow to love those around you, and feel their love and support as you embark on your journey. My cohorts have come to feel like my family, and we've never met face to face! I was skeptical about zoom therapy but never again- it works.

Victory bay SUD side, I can’t say enough about this program. Truly saved my life. This week I’ll be celebrating 18 months clean and if it weren’t for Vic bay and its staff I don’t know if I would be clean and loving the life I have/who I am today. My therapist Katie was amazing. She really listened to me and helped me through the tough times. The supervisors, dani, Nicole and both Justin’s, couldn’t have done it without you guys! The techs, always there for me. I felt so supported the whole time I was here. Today, I work in treatment and have a whole support system I never thought I could have.

I have had such a good experience at Victory Bay!!! The therapists and client experience people are some of the most supportive and helpful I’ve come across and I think that speaks to an organizational wide standard that really shows. They understand that recovery is not a straight line and everybody takes a different path. There’s never any judgment just support and encouragement to reach the goals we set. I feel comfortable and safe when talking with anybody and I would totally recommend Victory Bay to anybody going through similar issues

Howdy!!! I was there during the beginning of the new year 2024. Everyone was so wonderful there my therapist (who had to leave and idk why but I’m not questioning it cause it’s not my busniess) but my team was originally Nichole Justine Coyle and Dr. Ruth. They were all so kind to me and so helpful. Even the other therapists were helpful. This place is better than the rest of the other programs I’ve been at and I feel like I got a lot more out of it. I’ll start with Justin. Justin was amazing. He helped me so much and helped me get through those tough times. He made sure I was always okay. He may had to be firm at the end of my stay which was fair cause I was going to a sober living which he also hooked me up with. Which was also amazing. He took the time to get to know me. Next is Dr.Ruth, I don’t think I’ve seen her all that often but it was always pleasant. Sadly I had to switch psychs because they changed everything towards the end of my stay which wasn’t great and did the same thing with my therapist but other than that Ruth was good. Nichole was also amazing. She’s so sweet and kind and caring and always got the chance to get to know me too. Another thing is that we worked with IFS which is a type of therapy that I wanna learn too and specialize in. Also I’m almost done with college. Sadly she did leave which sucked but I was able to get to another therapist who I recommended was Becc. Becc may have been a little tough on me but I needed it. She’s amazing and will call you out on your stuff which sometimes we need. She cared a lot about me and wanted to make sure I was okay after so many changes towards the end of my stay. Chyna (Hopefully I spelt it right) was amazing as well. She was also kind and patient with me and made sure I had everything in order before I left and so did Justin. Now for the other therapists and techs. I loved the techs, sadly some of the few I liked left but that’s okay. They were great!!! I loved all the therapists there!! Angela (if I spelt her name right) Madison and Sarah. However I did just look at the staffing and I don’t see a few of them there which is sad but I could be wrong. Anyway I enjoyed my stay there!!!
