About North Star Transitions

NorthStar Transitions empowers people to navigate real life recovery. On top of our comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and trauma informed care curriculum, we focus experientially and somatically to teach clients how to disrupt their reflexive pattern of behavior, moving them beyond their addiction. Disrupting this pattern enables us to work through stuck traumas and co-occurring disorders, and gives our clients tangible skills to create response instead of their ingrained reaction.

What Our Patients Say About Us

For most of 2015 I was in facilities in several states trying to figure out how to live happily in sobriety. Though I was able to learn how to be sober and I developed skills that I still use today in some of the country’s best inpatient recovery departments, I still struggled with enjoying life, and not sweating the small stuff. The fact of the matter was, I had not been in the real world without elicit drugs and alcohol for any significant amount of time since I was 15.

Coming back to society in August of 2015 was a huge culture shock for me after being in a hospital setting for almost six months straight. I was coming from another state, and I didn’t have a lot when I got here. With NorthStar’s help, I found my confidence for the first time in my life. NorthStar’s amazing staff helped guide me in getting back into school, finding work, and rebuilding my relationships with my family. As a patient for NorthStar, I was an active participant in my recovery from the start, and have learned that I deserve and am capable of a fulfilling and great life in sobriety.

Life is amazing for me today. It is not always easy, but nothing worth having ever is. If you want the best shot for yourself or loved one at a great life in recovery, you owe it to yourself to look more into this program.

We were referred to NorthStar Transitions for our daughters aftercare while she attended treatment in Arizona. Being that our daughter was “on the fence” about staying sober after completing treatment, we had NorthStar fly to Arizona to pick our daughter up from treatment and support her in her transition to aftercare in Colorado. After initially staying in one of NorthStar’s apartments, our daughter’s life skills counselor helped her to find an apartment and a full-time job as a barista. Our daughter has found a new group of friends in Narcotics Anonymous and Phoenix Multisport. Today, our daughter continues to work full-time and has over 6 months sober. Through our phone conferences with her therapist our communication has improved quite a bit and we are looking forward to coming out to Boulder soon to visit her. We are so glad we were referred to NorthStar Transitions. The NorthStar program was a perfect fit for our daughter who was hesitant to attend a residential program.

When I enrolled in the NorthStar program I was on the verge of being expelled from college due to my substance abuse. I was on and off of academic probation and had been arrested several times on drug and alcohol related charges. After attending a wilderness treatment program I decided to go to NorthStar Transitions for aftercare for a fresh start (I am from New York). I really enjoyed all of the fun activities I did with my life skills counselor and activities with Phoenix Multisport. Now I am back in college, attending AA meetings and recently made the Dean’s List. I credit NorthStar’s individualized program for helping me to get where I am today.

I can't say enough good things about this organization and the people that work here. Coming up on 2 months of sobriety, I can honestly say I would not be here without the amazing staff and therapists at NorthStar. I want to give a huge shout out to Sean who worked with me in helping me identify my triggers and to create a plan for my future. I could write a review a mile long if I started naming all the great staff at the lodge, but I'll keep it to this: from the AM staff to the PM staff, every single person there is invested in supporting you on your journey, and they truly 'get it.' From laughter to serious moments, they facilitated the perfect healing environment for me. KW was also very influential in my healing.

Working in a professional capacity with NorthStar for the last few years, I can absolutely recommend their program to anyone seeking a responsible treatment center that is patient focused. The professionalism that I have experienced with NorthStar has been unmatched by many and I refer to this program often because of this. Thank you for the work you do for the Colorado community.

The staff are some of the most knowledgeable and welcoming people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. During the entire process of residential and IOP they gave myself and the other clients the utmost support and respect possible. The residential care facility and staff are among the best in the country and couldn't possibly offer a better experience or care. If you are struggling with addiction issues I would highly recommend the NorthStar facility and also their treatment team.

NorthStar Transitions is truly a pillar of treatment in Colorado. At Sandstone Care we often utilize their gender specific residential care which combines an innovative clinical program with a serene and therapeutic living environment. Their longstanding clinical director created a program which supports the client in both mind and body. They have great accessibility, taking most major insurance options and providing a streamlined admissions process. As one of the referral coordinators for Sandstone Care, I have been impressed with the ease of getting individuals into treatment with them. We respect and rely on the services that NorthStar Transitions offers.

My inpatient stay was amazing. I love all the counselors and the fact that they all are also in recovery made my experience even better in connecting with them. The location is beautiful and having a smaller group makes it feel like a family. My stay got cut short due to getting covid, but other than that I really enjoyed my time here.
